HELP CAT Diploma student Jason Soo to major in Data Science at the University of Queensland

HELP CAT Dip in Computer Science student Jason Soo (above) has set a new trend by qualifying for admission to the University of Queensland (UQ) to complete a Bachelor of Computer Science degree.

The University of Queensland is consistently ranked among the world’s top universities and is one of only three Australian members of the global Universitas 21. It is a founding member of the prestigious Group of Eight (Go8) Australian universities.

Business and IT students from HELP University are regularly accepted by UQ to complete their degree programmes there on a 1+2 or 2+1 basis.

Jason Soo’s success is a special case and speaks well for the quality of the HELP CAT Diploma in Computer Science programme.

Jason, who scored a CGPA of 3.3 in the Dip Comp Sc, will major in Data Science at UQ.

Data Science became Jason’s focus of interest after his first year at HELP CAT, after being exposed to the subject on HELP CAT’s website and by attending the numerous lectures and workshops on campus.

In particular, Jason was inspired by a talk on Data Cube by HELP CAT President Dr Choong Yeow Wei at a Big Data workshop, and by a visiting professor from UQ, Prof Zhou Xiaofang, who demonstrated how meaning and information could be extracted from raw data.

How did he choose to study at HELP CAT?

Jason was impressed by the strong list of partnerships that HELP CAT has created with international universities. He was also impressed by the up-to-date contents of the IT courses at HELP CAT, compared to those of other universities.

Jason also applauds HELP CAT’s practice of employing part-time lecturers from industry as they are able to impart the current industrial practices and their invaluable experiences to students. He credits them with sustaining his interest in new developments in IT and with nourishing his curious mind.

HELP CAT congratulates Jason Soo on his achievement and wishes him all the best in his studies at the university of Queensland.
